  • Popis: Reel 1: In the introduction, the film separates the old and the new Bern. The old part: Münster cathedral, fountains, streets in the old town. The new part: Gymnasium Kirchenfeld, Hotel Savoy. 2nd part: Construction workers set up scaffolds, mix cement, concrete and build brick walls. They are building a new housing district for the bernese population. We see two residential areas, Breitenrain and Weissenstein. The quiet location, spacious gardens and the nearby woods determin the popular residential areas. A machine kneas a dough in a large pot. A beautiful fat baker with mighty hands forms bread out of it. Finally a last brush stoke and each piece goes into the oven. Dairy products at the consumer cooperative Bern (KGB). The big enterprise allows a high level of sterility. Pots with fresh milk are delivered here and in a large tank, the milk is heated. Butter is cut into suitable size by machine and packed by hand. In hot water, the pots are then sterilized again. Shots of warehouses of the consumer cooperative Bern (KGB, later Coop) with huge stacks of firewood. Men push a railroad wagon into a building. Machines saw and split large pieces of wood, later to be filled as coal into sacks. Either by horse or on a heavy loaded trucks, coal sacks are then delivered to the customers. Reel 2: Foods in large quantities is stacked in the warehouses, delivered by railway wagons and lorries. The coffee is roasted, the beans are carefully checked before women pack them into bags. The same procedure as with sugar, flour and rice. Wine is stored in huge oak casks in the basement, Burgundy, Tyrol, rose... It is also bottled in carefully cleaned bottles and prepared for delivery. A truck arrives at the consumer cooperative Bern (KGB), men unload packages into the warehouse. Among others a supply of the sugar factory and refinery Aarberg. Household items such as Lux, Vim, carpet beater, tin cans are stacked until under the roof. Finally they are packed in boxes and made ready for delivery. The union printer was once located at the Monbijoustrasse 61 in Bern. With mechanical hot metal typesetting a number of newspapers and other printed matter were printed every day: the consumer, Berner Tageblatt, the railway workers and others. Reel 3: The film gives an insight into various cooperative enterprises in Bern. In most trades, many works are still performed by hand, but more and more is done by machine, for example at the joiners and carpenters. Cooperatives are seen as a promising way to be organized in the future.
